Review Me Paid to Post

For some reason the paid to post business model leaves me feeling a little uncomfortable.
In truth, this feeling is totally illogical given that this kind of thing has been going on in old media for decades.
My objections are further dulled by a couple of other factors:
1. Do you actually like the product or service you’re being asked to post about?
2. Are you confirming that the post is sponsored?
If the answer to these questions is yes, then my discomfort is almost completely exorcised.
The key is transparency. Getting caught trying to dupe your readership is a bad move.
Review Me is a Pay Per Post business, launched with great fanfare in November 2006. It seems to resolve some of these moral issues by insisting that bloggers disclose the review is a paid advertisement.
According to TechCrunch:
“ReviewMe has a somewhat different model to PayPerPost. Where advertisers on PayPerPost set a single fee that is paid to all bloggers regardless of their size, ReviewMe uses an algorithm based on Alexa, Technorati and other statistics to determine the importance of a blog and charges a different fee for each blog based on the calculation. Blogger payments range from $30 - $1,000 per post.”
Another nice touch is that advertisers cannot require a post to be positive. The blogger has the freedom to write honestly so long as the post is a minimum of 200 words.
We’ll be monitoring how Review Me performs over the coming months, but in the mean time we would love to hear views from anybody using this service.
