The best and most widespread player in this field is Text Link Ads. But what about the competition:
- Text Link Brokers: Similar sort of operation to Text Link Ads although as an inventory partner, it offers confidentially listings in their Premium Text Link Inventory. Their USP is really to provide a personalised, covert service that protects the value of links.
- LinkAdAge: Considered a smaller operator than the first two, focuses on providing a full package of link buying activiities via auction or link exchanges.
- Contextual Links : Launched recently by the V7N network, Contextual Links offers links embedded within content and blog entries.
AdSense is a wonderful program. There I said it. It has it’s critics as there are plenty of Google haters with their own agendas out there, but if you look at what AdSense has achieved and is still doing you have to hold your hands up and say congratulations to Google.
But what about the alternatives. There are plenty to choose from, and some better than others. Here’s a non exhaustive list of alternatives most of which we hope to be reviewing over the coming months. Keep your eyes peeled.

The most famous contextual advertising program is of course AdSense. But what is the principle behind it.
Quite simply it’s to provide advertising inventory that relates as closely as possible to the content it sits within. Or at least thats my humble interpretation.

A few years ago I would have given a very simple answer to this question. Afterall, we were all associating blogs with personal diaries.
But in 2007 I think we have to say that the blog as we know it has evolved into something far bigger and more powerful than a humble diary.
Yes the basic infrastructure of a blog is almost the same but the spectrum of uses has certainly widened substantially.
Before I go on to talk about these uses it is important to give the base definition. Here’s my stab at it:
“A Weblog is a web site with the capability to draw upon different pieces of content which can then be presented in a variety of different ways.”
I like my definitions kept short and simple!
